Since I last wrote in October a lot has happened. I’ve been very busy the last few months, which is why I haven’t updated in a while. But in retrospect it’s kind of cool to see the progress made in only 4 months. The last time I updated I was just starting to walk with a walker and electrical stimulation on my right leg. It has been a blessing being able to walk with a walker at therapy. It has also been a huge challenge. It can be very easy to get frustrated at your body when you want it to do one thing and it does another. This does test my patience, and I have learned to be much more patient throughout this whole journey. Since last writing I have had the opportunity to test out a Walk-Aid device, which is one of the most amazing things I’ve encountered in the medical world since my injury. Basically what the Walk-Aid does is send electrical stimulation to the muscle that lifts the foot, so when I go to take a step my foot will lift up, allowing me to take a step with my weak leg. I am in the middle of a 30 day trial with the device right now. If they feel it is safe for me to take home at the end if the trail I will get much more practice with it everyday. Fingers crossed that happens!
Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.
